Appointed gas adviser, Apr. Final conference before first British use of gas, 18 Sep at Helfaut, with plan of proposed attack on 25 Sep at Loos. Description of gas attack, 25 and 27 Sep; assessment of the effect of the attacks; third gas attack, 13 Oct at Hulluch. Experiments with flame thrower and phosphorus smoke bomb, 15 Nov.
