Typed transcripts of diary kept by Hamilton as a foreign military attaché to the Japanese 1 Army during the Russo-Japanese War, including his farewells to the Japanese Army, and his meetings with Meiji, Emperor of Japan, Marshal Aritomo Yamagata, Lt Gen Makakata [Masatake] Terauchi, Japanese Army Minister, Marshal Iwao Oyama, Chief of the General Staff, Japanese Gen Takemoti Kuroki, Lt Gen Gentaro Kodama, Vice Chief of the General Staff, Maj Gen Matsunagi, Chief of Staff to Gen Maresuke Nogi and Maj Gen S Fujii. 1 file (Much of this material was used by Hamilton for his A Staff Officer's scrap-book during the Russo-Japanese War (Edward Arnold, London, 2 vols, 1905 & 1907)
