Secret telegraph no 8515, 4 Oct 1915, from FM Horatio Herbert Kitchener, 1st Earl Kitchener of Khartoum and Broome, Secretary of State for War, to Hamilton, enquiring if Hamilton would replace Maj Gen Walter Pipon Braithwaite, Chief of General Staff, Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (MEF), with Maj Gen Launcelot Edward Kiggell, Director of Home Defence, War Office, due to unofficial reports from Gallipoli criticising staff officers of General Headquarters, MEF (manuscript copy in Braithwaite's hand). With manuscript copy by Hamilton of his reply (telegraph no MF 732) to Kitchener, maintaining his confidence in Braithwaite and discounting unofficial reports, 5 Oct 1915. 2pp
