Note, 29 Aug 1941, on a conversation about equipping tanks for desert operations

Report by Stern of an interview with Maj Gen Vyvyan Vavasour Pope, Director of Armoured Fighting Vehicles, War Office relating to the furnishing of the tanks of the Special Vehicle Development Committee, Ministry of Supply, including mention by Pope of the need for additional water tanks and appropriate oil and sand filters for tanks in use in desert warfare. 1p

Note, 28 Jul 1942, about discussions of the TOG 3 tank project

Note of a conversation between Ronald G Troup, Secretary, the Special Vehicle Development Committee, Ministry of Supply and R Tippetts, Private Secretary to the Rt Hon Sir Andrew Rae Duncan, Ministry of Supply in which Troup pointed out that the Minister had promised a decision on whether to continue funding the TOG 3 tank project in his letter to Stern of 7 Jul 1942 and an outline specification for the tank had been submitted on 10 Mar 1942. 1p

Notes by Stern on an interviews with the Rt Hon William Aitken Maxwell Beaverbrook, 1st Baron Beaverbrook, Minister of Supply and William Edward Rootes, Supply Council, Ministry of Supply at which Stern expressed his concern at the division of responsibility for tank design at the Ministry of Supply and made proposals about the structure of the Tank Board and the type of tanks required by the Army. 1p

Note by Stern on the visit of representatives of the Special Vehicle Development Committee, Ministry of Supply to Vauxhall Motors Limited, Luton, Bedfordshire, where they saw a wooden mock-up of the A22 (Infantry Tank Mark IV) and C J Bartlett, Vauxhall Company, Luton Bedfordshire commented that the company had had no experience in tank manufacture and had received no data from the Mechanisation Board, Ministry of Supply. 1p

Note by Stern of a meeting with Claude Dixon Gibb, Director General Weapons and Instrument Production, Ministry of Supply and Maj Gen Edward Montague Campbell Clarke, Director General of Artillery, relating to the fitting of the barrel of the Ordnance Quick Fire 3.7 inch monobloc gun into the Ordnance Quick Fire 17 pounder Mark II gun. 1p

Note by Stern of a conversation with Maj Gen Vyvyan Vavasour Pope, Director of Armoured Fighting Vehicles, War Office in which Pope recommended that Stern contact the Experimental Establishment, Farnborough, Hampshire about obtaining service drivers for the TOG 2 tank and mentioned that he had informed Gen Sir John Greer Dill, Chief of the Imperial General Staff that the TOG 2 tank would available to be viewed at the Experimental Establishment, Farnborough, Hampshire by the beginning of Jul 1941. 1p
