Photographs, 1907-1956, relating to T E Lawrence, including his photographs of crusader castles in France, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey, and photographs relating to the Hejaz campaign, World War One

PLEASE NOTE: there are duplicate sets of T E Lawrence's photographs held in other repositories, including Crusader castle photographs held by the Society of Antiquaries, and extensive photographs relating to World War One and the Arab Rebellion held by the Imperial War Museum.
In 1951 Liddell Hart wrote to Heinrich Franke, 'Lawrence left me his collection of photographs (more than 2000) which he took during his travels in Syria and Arabia before and during the first world war. I presented copies of part of them to the Imperial War Museum, and others have been reproduced in various books' (LH 9/13/71/606). If this number is accurate, Liddell Hart disposed of more than half of his T E Lawrence photographs before the Liddell Hart collection came to King's College London.
Liddell Hart sold much of his original collection of T E Lawrence material to the University of Texas at Austin in 1962 (see LH 9/13/71/78 for more information).
Crusader castle photographs have been dated as far as possible with reference to Crusader Castles by T E Lawrence (London, Folio Society, 2010). Further information has been taken from the online catalogue of the Imperial War Museum, and from Jeremy Wilson's T E Lawrence, 1988.

Place names and personal names have been identified as far as possible.
