Manuscript volume of summary surgical lecture notes compiled by Professor Albert Carless, 1907-1911, possibly for the instruction of nurses, under a wide variety of headings comprising surgical bacteriology and its manifestation in the descriptions of the types and treatment of skin lesions, gangrene, ulcers, septicaemia and tetanus; the treatment of arterio-venous wounds, aneurysms and haemorrhages, and the diagnosis and treatment of gastric ulcers and carcinomas, peritonitis and injuries to the abdominal walls; skeletal abnormalities including rickets, inflammation of the bone and spinal incongruities, syphilis and skull fractures. The collection also includes loose pages listing the subject of individual lectures.

File of typescript entitled 'Notes on the Cases in the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, taken by W. Watson Cheyne', comprising lectures on clinical surgery delivered by Joseph Lister, 1872-1873, and including observations on the diagnosis, description and treatment of testicular swelling, spina bifida, lymph abscesses, carcinoma of the breast, varicose ulcers, burns, varieties of fractures, and assessing the germ theory of putrefaction and the dangers of the use of chloroform to anaesthetise patients.

Correspondence describing the ear operation performed upon Lillian Lusty by Arthur Henry Cheatle, aural surgeon, 1919, following an attack of Scarlet Fever, and of the operation by Cheatle upon her brother to correct a perforated eardrum.
