Whole plate series: glass slides of images relating to research conducted in the Biophysics Unit and subsequently Department of Biophysics

Series of glass 16” by 12” (40 x 30 cm) plate slides of x-ray diffraction images of DNA and RNA relating to research conducted in the Medical Research Council (MRC) Biophysics Research Unit, King’s College London (from 1964, King’s College London Department of Biophysics). The images of DNA, RNA and nucleoproteins date chiefly from the early 1960s some are captioned with reference number, exposure time and type of sample used. Some glass plates have an additional attached plastic sheet marked with co-ordinated of the diffraction pattern.

Wheatstone Bridge, [1840-1845]

Prototype or demonstration model of the 'Wheatstone Bridge' or 'Differential Resistance Measurer' originally devised by Samuel Hunter Christie and further developed and promoted by Wheatstone. An electrical circuit designed to measure unknown resistance by using components with known resistance.  Consists of a series of wires and connectors attached to a wooden base in a diamond shape.
