King's College London Publications: Serials and Periodicals, 1836-2014. This class of ephemera contains 150 distinct titles of annual/termly periodical comprising newsletters and magazines about the College, its students and staff, illustrating its academic work and social life from the earliest years to the present day. Most series are incomplete and sometimes contain only single editions of predominantly recent titles. The main series of publications comprise long running College magazines such as King's College Review/Lucifer (1899-1966), of which there exist bound and duplicate sets, King's College London News (1981-1984), The King's College London Report (1993-2000), Comment (1984-2001) and the staff bulletin, Viewpoint (1973-1979) and Library staff magazine, Ex Libris (later retitled No Comment ) (1996-2001). They also include departmental and faculty periodicals and newsletters such as The Kingsman (1958-1978), which was one of several journals associated with the Theology Faculty, the War Studies Review (1994-1998), War Studies Journal (1995-1999) and Department of War Studies Diary (1993-1997), The Siphon , magazine of the Faculty of Science (1946-1968), the Nurses' League Journal (1926-2000), King's College School Magazine (1890-1903), King's College London Association newsletter, later retitled In Touch (1972-1999), Computer Unit newsletters (1967-1996) and the Ladies' Department Magazine (1896-1914). They also include support services and Trades Union magazines and newsletters including of the Library and NALGO, Development Office, Chaplaincy and Staff Development and Training, Students' Union and Rag magazines, most prominently, Magus (1974-1985). The collection contains a few examples of periodicals external to King's College, mainly concerned with the Higher Education sector, such as the Newsletter of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals (1995-1998) and relating to various aspects of the work of the University of London. Content is very broad and diverse, including events listings, College and departmental news, obituaries, sporting fixtures, society business and original articles, particularly in The King's Engineer (1922-1968) and Lucifer (1951-1966), whose distinctive ironical and experimental character was reflected in critical commentary on South Africa and Vietnam, pornography and censorship, examples of cutting edge poetry, alongside theatre reviews and original articles, drawings and caricatures including by Derek Jarman and the writer and broadcaster, Michael Bukht.

South-Western Polytechnic, Chelsea Polytechnic, Chelsea College of Science and Technology, and Chelsea College Serial Publications, 1904-1983. This class of material comprises College magazine and journal periodicals, and provides a snapshot of the academic and social life of students and staff from the early phase of the Polytechnic until shortly before the merger with King's in 1985, and includes the South Western Polytechnic Journal , 1904-1906; The Magazine of the Chelsea Polytechnic , 1929-1939; Chelsea College of Science and Technology Gazette , 1962-1969; The Bell , the magazine of the Chelsea Pharmacy Association, 1953-1968; and New Leaf , the Humanities Society journal, 1973-1982.

Twenty seven letters from Capt Basil Henry Liddell Hart to Russell, 1927-1943, mostly relating to books and articles by Liddell Hart, with four typescript articles by Liddell Hart, 'The problem of quickening manoeuvre', Dec 1942; 'Arms for the attack', Dec 1942; 'Where are our airborne troops?', Jan 1943; and 'Is our soldiership carrying too much top hamper?', Feb 1943. Publications comprise issues 1-44 of the magazine, 1965-1982, covering poetry from a wide range of sources including countries in Europe, the Middle East, Central and South America, Asia and Russia; MPT Year Book (1983); MPT programme for Poetry International 71 (1971); Poetry World (1986); and an Anthology of Twentieth Century Russian Poetry (1974), edited by Max Hayward and Daniel Weissbort. There are also files of translated poems, undated, from sources including various countries in Europe, Central and South America, and Asia. The bulk of the records comprises correspondence, covering all aspects of MPT 's organisation including discussion with publishers, printers and distributors; decisions on the content of future issues and work by guest editors; correspondence with translators on specific projects and the general theory of translation; and many letters from translators offering their services, demonstrating the wave of enthusiasm of which MPT was part. The first series of correspondence, covering 1961 to 1984, relates to issues 1-6 (1965-1969, when MPT was published by Cape Golliard) and includes files on particular countries and related translators; organisations including the Arts Council and Gulbenkian Foundation; individuals including Ted Hughes and his involvement with MPT ; distribution in Britain and America. The second series, 1966-1984, relates to the independent production of the magazine from 1969 and also to the Year Book (1983), and comprises some files on particular countries and their translators but also more general files covering aspects of production and admininstration over particular periods. The third series, 1964-1984, relates to translation projects in which Daniel Weissbort, editor of MPT , was engaged outside MPT . Subsequent deposits relate largely to the revival of MPT from 1992 and include papers on MPT , 1978-2000, among them translations, correspondence, reviews, biographical information and ephemera; papers relating to Poetry World after its launch in 1986; files relating to new series issues of MPT , comprising correspondence and translations; printed material including issues 1 and 2 of the new series, 1992; and working papers of Professor Norma Rinsler, 1993-1994 and undated, relating to the MPT new series and the Second International Poets Festival in Jerusalem, 1993, and including typescript poems and information on poets.

The records of the Maxwell Society at King's College London consist of minutes, correspondence, programmes and signature books, 1939-1970. These notably include the manuscript minutes of the Maxwell Society, 1947-1950, mostly summarising the title and content of individual Society lectures on subjects ranging from the development of the calculating machine, to 'reasoning automata' or the early theory of intelligent computers, and to the possibility of interplanetary travel, a talk given by Arthur Charles Clarke, the best-selling science author, an alumnus of King's, who was then Chairman of the British Interplanetary Society. The minutes notably cover the period of the Secretaryship of Peter Ware Higgs, a leading authority on the behaviour of elementary particles.
