The Schedules for Clinical Assessment in Neuropsychiatry (SCAN) were developed under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO) and its International Classification of Diseases as a common set of standards to assess, measure and classify psychiatric disorders. The prototype was devised in 1980 and subsequent components such as training manuals, schedules, results of field trials and glossary were published up until 1998. SCAN is used as a classification and reference tool by psychiatrists and comprises a structured interview, encoding and computer programme to produce a standard diagnostic presentation. The records of the Schedules for Clinical Assessment in Neuropsychiatry (SCAN) at King's College London Institute of Psychiatry are made up of editorial committee papers, data tables, statistical data, notes of meetings and other correspondence and papers, 1986-1995. These include correspondence with Geoff Der of the Social Psychiatry Unit at the Institute, 1988-1995; editorial committee papers, 1986-1994; notes on international meetings arranged by Geoff Der relating to SCAN, 1989; field trial data in hard copy and floppy disks, [1989]; training manuals, reviews of statistics and other supporting literature, 1987-1991.

Iran: The Making of US Policy, 1977- 1980, is a themed microfiche collection which presents an integrated record of US foreign policy relating to Iran, 20 Jan 1977-29 Jan 1980. Included are memoranda, cabled messages, US embassy and consulate messages, Department of State reports, Central Intelligence Agency reports, US National Security Council reports and studies, and academic historical and political studies of the Middle East generally and Iran specifically, 21 Jan 1943-30 Apr 1980. Although the focus of this document set is on the 1977-1980 period, nearly one-third of the documents listed in the catalogue relate to the period prior to 1977. These are materials that were used in the preparation of the major internal inter-agency review of US-Iranian relations, the US Department of State 'White Paper'. The collection covers the beginning of the popular protests and mass demonstrations that resulted in the Iranian revolution of Feb 1979, which overthrew the pro-American monarchy of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Shah of Iran, and established the Islamic Republic of Iran. The collection also covers efforts by the US and the Iranian Provisional Government under Prime Minister Mehdi Bazargan to normalise relations between Iran and the US, which were frustrated by challenges from Islamic organisations including the Revolutionary Council. The collection records in detail the US reaction to the Iranian Constitutional Assembly, which pitted secular against religious forces during the drafting of the new constitution and which led to the formal establishment of a theocracy and the loss of Iran as a US strategic ally, Feb-Jun 1979. The collection includes 63 transcripts of interviews recorded in the making of television documentary Israel and the Arabs: Elusive Peace which examines the Arab-Israeli conflict and peace initiatives, 1999-2005. It also contains a DVD of the completed documentary, copies of the recorded interviews on VHS and DVD, as well as documentaries, press cuttings, and published works gathered in the research and production of the documentary.

Interviews were conducted with eyewitnesses from Israel, the former British Mandated Territory of Palestine, the USA and the UK. The interviewees recount their memories and describe their involvement in events including various diplomatic negotiations, 1999-2005, including the Middle East Peace Summit at Camp David, USA, 2000; the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, 2000; the assassination of Gen Rehavam Zeevi, Israeli Minister for Tourism, 2001; the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centre, New York, USA, 2001; the bombing of the Park Hotel, Netanya, Israel, 2002; the siege of the Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem, by Israeli Defence Forces, 2002; the siege of Yasir Arafat’s Presidential compound, Ramallah, West Bank, 2002; the capture of the weapons freighter KARINE A by Israeli Defence Forces, 2002; Israeli military action at the Palestinian refugee camp, Jenin (Operation DEFENSIVE SHIELD), 2002; the assassination of al-Asqsa Martyrs’ Brigade member Raed Karmi, 2002 and the development of the ‘road map for peace’, 2002-2005.
