Manuscript letter from Aubrey Lewis, Russia, to Hilda Lewis, begun 26 May 1937, describing in detail his visit to Moscow and Leningrad, Russia, and Helsingfors, Finland, and his observations and discussions with scientists including: Lina Stern, Director, Institute of Physiology, Moscow; [Solomon] Levitt, Director, Maxim Gorky Medico-Genetical Research Institute, Moscow; Mikhail Kroll, Director, Neurological Clinic, Moscow; Pyotr Koupalov [Kupalov], Institute of Experimental Medicine, Leningrad; Nikolai Krasnogorsky, Filatov Hospital, Leningrad; Leon Orbeli, Director, Pavlov Institute of Physiology; Harald August Fabritius, Professor, Helsingfors University, Finland. Subjects discussed include the scientists' research interests, the quality of psychiatric and other medical training and treatment, administrative and financial matters and the impact of the political climate on scientific research. Also postcard to Lewis from Krasnogorsky, 31 Dec 1937, with view of Leningrad, sending New Year greetings, and incomplete note by Lewis, [1938], concerning the lack of information on psychiatric research in Russia outside Moscow and Leningrad.
