Scope and content

William Yule was one of a team from the Institute of Education and the Institute of Psychiatry, which conducted an educational and medical survey of school age children, Isle of Wight, 1964-1969, the first epidemiological study on such a large scale to examine child health and its impact on educational achievement. An initial screening, in 1964, of almost all 8-9 year old children (approximately 2,300) resident on the Isle of Wight was followed by a series of studies of smaller groups of children identified as having specific learning difficulties and behavioural problems.
