Experimental notebooks relating to DNA research, compiled by Clive Williams Hooper, postdoctoral researcher, Medical Research Council (MRC) Biophysics Unit, King’s College London, 1955-1957. Contents include: notes on the preparation of samples, including thymocytes and thymus nuclei; tables of intensity observations relating to ‘A’ form x-ray diffraction images of ‘A’ form DNA, followed by mathematical analysis using Patterson technique and Fourier transforms; loose inserts including additional calculations and photographic prints of an x-ray diffraction pattern created using a photo reducing mask (in a technique developed by Hooper, William Etienne Seeds and Alexander Rawson Stokes, and described in ‘Photographic preparation of masks of large molecules for the Lipson diffractometer’, Nature, 1955).
