Manuscript letters to the Secretary of King’s College London including the unsuccessful application of John Cart Burgess ([1789]-1863), landscape painter, for the post of Landscape Drawing Master at King’s College School and Thomas Bell (1792-1880), Professor of Zoology, regarding the Natural History Department; John William Parker (1792-1870), publisher, regarding his opinion on the teaching models selected by Thomas Bradley (1797-1869), Lecturer of Geometrical Drawing, from his collection; the Earl of Lincoln (1811-1864), (Henry Pelham Fiennes Pelham-Clinton, later 5th Duke of Newcastle), regarding the transfer of portions of Charles Babbage’s ‘Counting Machine’ [the 'difference engine' or mechanical computer invented by Charles Babbage] to the George III Museum (see also KA/IC/O17). Also includes a list of pupils in the classes of Adolphus Bernays (1795-1864), Professor of German Language and Literature and German Master at King’s College School.
