Manuscript letters and papers sent to the Secretary of King’s College London regarding the formation of the Civil Engineering Department (later the Applied Sciences Department), including Henry James Castle (1809-1891) recommending the College form a permanent course on Land Surveying (he was appointed Professor of Land Surveying and Levelling in 1839); a report from the Professors of the Department containing proposals for the allocation of fees and purchasing apparatus; recommendations from the Professors for courses in military engineering and architecture.
