King's College London Mathematics Department undergraduate record cards, 1909-1989 (Ref: KDM/FPC), undergraduate record books 1946-1986 (Ref: KDM/FP), undergraduate files, 1990-1991 (Ref: KDM/FP), postgraduate record cards, 1970-1988 (Ref: KDM/FPPG). Information contained on undergraduate record cards typically includes date of birth, address, date of entry/leaving, classification of degree. There are record cards for withdrawals that cover the period 1967-1984 and give course codes, grades and reports by tutors. Included within this series is an annual list of graduates from 1906-1983. Information contained in the undergraduate record books includes date of birth, address, scholarship details, examination results and third-year advanced subjects. This series also contains record books from Chelsea College Mathematics Department, 1967-1986, and record cards of Queen Elizabeth College Department of Mathematics, 1982-1985. These contain course codes, grades, results and photographs. The postgraduate record cards cover the years 1970-1988 and include Chelsea postgraduates from 1970-1986. Information given includes date of entry/leaving, address and results. This series also contains annual lists of MSc/MPhil/PhD passes, 1923-1984, theses titles, 1966-1984, names of students, 1971-1982 and enrolment forms, 1980-1991. The undergraduate files generally contain a record card, some correspondence, course unit registration and modification forms and an enrolment form.

System of arrangement

Record cards are organised alphabetically in groups of years. Undergraduate student files are arranged by year of leaving, then alphabetically.

Biographical history

Mathematics has been taught at King's since it first opened in 1831. It initially was part of the Senior Department and the Department of General Literature and Science and then became part of the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Science from 1893, the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences from 1986, the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences from 1991, and the School of Physical Sciences and Engineering from 1992.
