King's College London Faculty/Department of Music undergraduate and postgraduate student files, [1964]-[1985], undergraduate files, 1984, 1986-1996 (Ref: KFM/FP), postgraduate files 1965, 1978, 1980-1983, 1986-1996, Junior Year Abroad student files (Ref: KFM/FP(JYA)). Information typically contained includes student correspondence, examination correspondence, examination assessments and performance assessments, pass lists, payment to examiners, music sheets. In some cases subsequent career details are given. Junior Year Abroad refers to the ERASMUS/SOCRATES undergraduate exchange programme, with files covering those students who spend a year studying Music at King's.

Undergraduate and postgraduate mixed series files [1964]-[1985] are listed alphabetically in one continuous run. Undergraduate files from 1984 onwards are arranged by year of leaving, then alphabetically within each year. Postgraduate files are arranged by year of leaving, then alphabetically within each year. Junior Year Abroad student files are arranged in an alphabetical run.

Biographical history

Vocal music was a subject taught in the Department of General Literature and Science between 1843 and 1915. Music was an externally examined subject within the University of London from around 1900 until the University of London King Edward Chair was converted into a full-time professorship based at King's College in a new Faculty of Music in 1964. The Faculty of Arts and Music was created in 1986 which became a part of the School of Humanities in 1989.
