Manuscript and typescript volume of case histories of male patients under the care of William Watson Cheyne, surgeon, King's College Hospital, featuring a wide range of general conditions including cleft palate, pneumococcal (swelling of upper thigh), enlarged prostate, pyelitis, arthritis, intestinal obstruction, abscesses, thyroid cancer, fistula, appendicitis, fractures, amputation for frost bite, un-descended testicles, and tubercular disease of the glands, and joints. Including a case of a bullet wound to the head sustained during a suicide attempt in the toilets of Temple Underground station, London, by a retired master mariner who twenty years previously had sustained an identical injury in an attack by Malay pirates. With charts and the first instance of an X-ray photograph in Watson Cheyne's notes. Patient details include name, age, sex, occupation, address, admission and discharge dates and name of dresser.
