Scope and content
Two albums relating to Lennox-Boyd's experience as an observer of Nationalist and Republican forces, Spanish Civil War, 1938-1939, and his subsequent work in relief aid to Spanish civilians. Contents include:
Letters of introduction and safe conduct passes (in Spanish).
Nationalist propaganda postcards, including photographic postcards depicting Nationalist leader Gen Francisco Franco, Gen Emilio Mola, Gen Antonio Aranda, Capt Jose Moscardo and Capt Juan Yague.
Captioned photographs of bomb-damaged cities, including Sevilla (Seville), Huesca and Malaga.
Photographs of Nationalist troops, and of dead and wounded civilians.
Uncaptioned photographs of Republican troops taken by Magnum photographers including Robert Capa.
UK press cuttings relating to relief aid to Spain, 1939.
Published articles by Lennox-Boyd, including 'A censored article', printed in The Star, 19 Jan 1939, describing casualties and destruction after Nationalist aerial bombardment of Barcelona; offprint longer version of the same article, entitled 'Death comes to Barcelona', sold as a fundraising pamphlet for the National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief; 'The agony of Spain - after Barcelona', published in The Hampshire Advertiser [1939].

Also typescript detailed account by Lennox-Boyd of his role in a convoy of food lorries travelling across France into Spain, to assist Republican refugees [1939], with a description of relief work undertaken by the Quaker Relief Party led by Dr Audrey Russell, and an additional copy of The Star, 19 Jan 1939.
System of arrangement
Items in the two albums appear to be broadly chronological (most are undated). The typescript account of relief work and additional issue of The Star, 1939, are in a separate file.

Born, 1902; educated at Bradfield College, Berkshire; 2 Lt, Highland Light Infantry, 1927; attended Christ Church, Oxford, 1928-1930; Lieutenant, 1930; visited USA, 1936; visited Spain as an observer, Spanish Civil War, 1938-1939; visited Germany with his brother, Lt Donald Breay Hague Lennox-Boyd, 1939, both were arrested; Donald Lennox-Boyd died in custody, but George Lennox-Boyd was released; Major, 1940; elected a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, 1940; died of pneumonia, Scotland, 1943.
