Papers, 1668-1685, from George Ernest Morrison's collection relating to the activities of Jesuit missionaries, principally in the Far East, including a legal document on Roman Catholic martyrs in Flanders, Japan, England and elsewhere, signed by the notary Hermanus Bex and others and with the great seal of the City of Liege, 1668, and correspondence and other documents concerning missions including transcripts of petitions protesting against the activities of the Vicars Apostolic, and in favour of the Jesuits, of Christians in Cochin China (Annam) and Indochina, 1681-1682.

Records, 1961-2000, relating to the original and new series of the periodical Modern Poetry in Translation and associated projects. The material pertains to languages including Afrikaans, Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Rumanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Yiddish. Publications comprise issues 1-44 of the magazine, 1965-1982, covering poetry from a wide range of sources including countries in Europe, the Middle East, Central and South America, Asia and Russia; MPT Year Book (1983); MPT programme for Poetry International 71 (1971); Poetry World (1986); and an Anthology of Twentieth Century Russian Poetry (1974), edited by Max Hayward and Daniel Weissbort. There are also files of translated poems, undated, from sources including various countries in Europe, Central and South America, and Asia. The bulk of the records comprises correspondence, covering all aspects of MPT 's organisation including discussion with publishers, printers and distributors; decisions on the content of future issues and work by guest editors; correspondence with translators on specific projects and the general theory of translation; and many letters from translators offering their services, demonstrating the wave of enthusiasm of which MPT was part. The first series of correspondence, covering 1961 to 1984, relates to issues 1-6 (1965-1969, when MPT was published by Cape Golliard) and includes files on particular countries and related translators; organisations including the Arts Council and Gulbenkian Foundation; individuals including Ted Hughes and his involvement with MPT ; distribution in Britain and America. The second series, 1966-1984, relates to the independent production of the magazine from 1969 and also to the Year Book (1983), and comprises some files on particular countries and their translators but also more general files covering aspects of production and admininstration over particular periods. The third series, 1964-1984, relates to translation projects in which Daniel Weissbort, editor of MPT , was engaged outside MPT . Subsequent deposits relate largely to the revival of MPT from 1992 and include papers on MPT , 1978-2000, among them translations, correspondence, reviews, biographical information and ephemera; papers relating to Poetry World after its launch in 1986; files relating to new series issues of MPT , comprising correspondence and translations; printed material including issues 1 and 2 of the new series, 1992; and working papers of Professor Norma Rinsler, 1993-1994 and undated, relating to the MPT new series and the Second International Poets Festival in Jerusalem, 1993, and including typescript poems and information on poets.

The Modern Greek Archive Collection includes records of the League for Democracy in Greece,1935-1992, the Greek Relief Fund, 1947-1984, and other associated bodies. Pre-1945 League for Democracy in Greece material includes a set of the Balkan Herald , 1935-1940, and surviving papers, 1943-1945, of the League's predecessor, the Greek United Committee, and one of its supporters, E Athanassoglou. Notably there are proofs of Sir Compton Mackenzie's The Wind of Freedom (published in London, 1944) and a photocopy of a telegram from Winston Churchill prohibiting favourable mention of EAM-ELAS by the BBC, 1944. The papers of the League itself date from 1945 to 1975 and include a large collection of press cuttings covering all British and some foreign press references to Greece during the period of the League's activity, with some later cuttings concerning Greece to 1992; material produced by the Greek News Agency including the Weekly Survey of Greek News and later monthly surveys, covering Greek and foreign press output and the Free Greek Radio Broadcasts, complete from November 1946 to September 1953 and January 1969 to January 1974 but otherwise incomplete, the contents of particular value for the period of the Civil War, 1947-1949, as they form a rare source for the broadcasts of Radio Free Greece; and eight volumes of the League's own duplicated information and organizational circulars. There are copies of all official British reports on Greece: TUC (Citrine), Legal Mission, March 1946 Election Observers, All-Party Parliamentary Delegation (1946); a fairly complete collection of Hansard for parliamentary references to Greece; reports of the UN Commission for observing the Balkans (1947-1950); daily broadcasts of the Greek refugee radio at Bucharest, 1970-1974; a large collection of pamphlets, leaflets and news bulletins, British and foreign; a large collection of material from similar organisations in other countries and from Greek refugee committees; and specialist journals. Over 280 files of the League's correspondence and information material cover its various campaigns. Over 23 files represent other organisations which donated material to the League's archives: British Branch of the Patriotic Anti-Dictatorial Front (PAM), Campaign for the Release of All Political Prisoners in Greece, European-Atlantic Action Committee on Greece, Greek Committee against Dictatorship. The papers include an important collection of archive material, arising from the League's work to stimulate British parliamentary action, particularly regarding persecution, on Greek government repression, Law 375/1936, the Emergency Measures Act of June 1946, Law 509/1947 on 'subversion', the operation of the special courts-material and the security committee, and the conditions in prisons and concentration camps, including dossiers on the cases of individual prisoners, supplemented by thesis material on Greek political legislation since 1921. There is a card index of junta detainees; material from the prisons and concentration camps, including two volumes of smuggled appeals (some in microscopic writing); and personal files on individual political prisoners and concentration camps detainees, 1945-1964, 1967-1974. A small library contains unusual publications of the Greek left. Other material comprises a photographic collection, in 18 albums, on occupation, resistance, liberation, civil war, prisons, prisoners, concentration camps, Greek refugee children, and activities abroad; loose photographic items; four reels of film including a Czech film of evacuated Greek children, c1949; and a collection of organisational stamps. Post-1975 material relates to the League's successor, the Friends of Democracy in Greece. Subjects covered by the Archive include the day-to-day evolution of the Civil War, 1947-1949; Greek political legislative and administrative measures; conditions in the prisons and concentration camps; the Greek trade unions; the 'kidnapped' or 'evacuated' children; the Greek political refugees in Eastern Europe; the operations of Greek anti-junta groups in Western Europe and the United States, 1967-1974; attitudes and action of the British Labour movement (Labour Party and trade unions) in regard to Greece, 1945-1974; individual political prisoners and concentration camp detainees; action regarding Greece in Western European countries, Australia, Canada, and the United States; and the operation of pressure groups (from the League's organisational material and correspondence with Members of Parliament and trade unionists). The papers from the Greek Relief Fund, 1947-1984, also contain material from its predecessor the League for Democracy in Greece Relief Committee, including minutes; administrative, legal and financial material; correspondence with donors and with organisations including branches of the Red Cross, relief funds, and pro-Greek democracy organisations in various overseas countries; material relating to appeals for funds for relief work; press cuttings on the visit of Queen Frederika of Greece to Britain, 1963; papers relating to visits to Greece and to conferences on Greece, including a draft paper, 1979, by Diana Pym on 'The British Philhellenic Movement, 1944-1974'; correspondence concerning the archives of the League for Democracy in Greece; and winding up of the Greek Relief Fund, 1984. The bulk of the material pertains to recipients of aid, including correspondence, and the papers are relevant to the resistance activities and prison records of individual Greeks opposed to the regime in Greece.

Out letter book, 1848-1852, containing copy letters relating to applied chemistry, in particular to the role of Professor William Allen Miller as a consultant retained by the Western Gaslight Company, and charged with improving the efficiency of its manufacturing facility at Vauxhall, Surrey, and in a similar capacity to undertake the analysis of particulate residues and other by-products of incomplete combustion in an industrial setting; the experimental analysis of various phosphates and salts; commentary upon the telegraph and upon suggestions that the earth itself could act as a substitute electrical conductor over distances. Papers of Alice Christiana Gertrude Meynell, 1875-1878 and 1941, comprise a book and correspondence; namely a copy of Meynell's book Preludes that she gave as a gift to the poet Robert Browning (1812-1889), in which Browning has inscribed his name and a note reading 'from the author', dated 7th June 1878.

The correspondence section comprises a letter from Browning to Meynell thanking her for giving him a copy of the book and praising the beauty of many of its poems, 1878; a letter from Wilfrid Meynell to Albert Arthur Cock (1883-1953) apologising for being unable to accept an invitation to attend some lectures and making reference to 'hundreds of German planes on their way to London and other large countries', 1941. The letters within the collection had previously been enclosed within the book which was gifted by Cock to King's College London.

Notebooks, Oct 1920-Feb 1921, of Frederick Walter McCombie compiled as part of his engineering degree at King's College, University of London comprising one notebook containing notes on brickwork and stonework and one notebook containing notes on practical electrical technology.

Papers of Colin William Fraser McClare, c1957-1981, comprising biographical and autobiographical material; laboratory notebooks c1964-1976; 'ideas' diaries; drafts for lectures and papers (not all published) c1959-c1976; teaching material, in particular for a course on the 'Social Impact of the Biosciences' which started in 1973, with which McClare had been closely involved; a set of McClare's publications including his major papers on bioenergetics and the correspondence arising; correspondence, 1964-1976 (mainly early 1970s), includes letters exchanged with the philosopher Sir Karl Raimund Popper, who offered considerable encouragement to McClare's early attempts to formulate and publish his scientific ideas, and whose philosophy McClare acknowledged as a profound influence.

The records of the Maxwell Society at King's College London consist of minutes, correspondence, programmes and signature books, 1939-1970. These notably include the manuscript minutes of the Maxwell Society, 1947-1950, mostly summarising the title and content of individual Society lectures on subjects ranging from the development of the calculating machine, to 'reasoning automata' or the early theory of intelligent computers, and to the possibility of interplanetary travel, a talk given by Arthur Charles Clarke, the best-selling science author, an alumnus of King's, who was then Chairman of the British Interplanetary Society. The minutes notably cover the period of the Secretaryship of Peter Ware Higgs, a leading authority on the behaviour of elementary particles. A manuscript letter from Emily Hill to Mrs Shaen, 1872, describes Maurice's death and a manuscript letter from Charles Kingsley to Maurice's widow, 1872, thanks her for a Greek testament. Other memorabilia relate to Maurice, his family, and friends.

Lecture notebooks, [1908-1932], mainly concerning the spread of Christianity, the philosophy of religion and the concepts of evolution and immortality; typed lecture texts, 1919, on systematic theology, including the standards of doctrinal teaching, the Christian doctrines of the Incarnation and justification; texts of sermons comprising addresses by Matthews at funeral and memorial services, 1949-1960, and a file of sermons by others, 1946-1973, notably 'What do we owe to the Bible' by the Very Reverend William Ralph Inge, Dean of St Paul's, London.

These contain course codes, grades, results and photographs. The postgraduate record cards cover the years 1970-1988 and include Chelsea postgraduates from 1970-1986. Information given includes date of entry/leaving, address and results. This series also contains annual lists of MSc/MPhil/PhD passes, 1923-1984, theses titles, 1966-1984, names of students, 1971-1982 and enrolment forms, 1980-1991. The undergraduate files generally contain a record card, some correspondence, course unit registration and modification forms and an enrolment form.
