Papers relating to Mayhew's economic and diplomatic trip under the direction of Prime Minister Rt Hon (James) Harold Wilson to Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela and Guyana, 19 May-14 Jun 1964. Papers include typescript itineraries, minutes of meetings and diaries of social events with South American political and economic leaders. Also included are manuscripts notes and semi-official reports written by Mayhew detailing membership rosters of the Chilean Socialist Party and Christian Democratic Party, his personal experiences with South American leaders, his contacts with leading South American socialists including Pablo Neruda, Chilean poet and diplomat, and drafts of articles recommending British economic and political interest in the region. 1 file.
